The other evening I had a bourbon Manhattan with drunken cherries, and it reminded me that we had a jar of drunken cherries (made by a friend of ours) that I should be eating. I’d been hoarding them, not wanting to eat them, because once the jar is opened, they’ll be soon gone. I also had some Tart Cherry liqueur made by Black Diamond Distillery. It’s very potent, a grain alcohol on it’s way to being a strong vodka, but with a delicious tartness to it. Cobbling ingredients together, I decided to throw together a drunken cherry cocktail, using bits of this and that.
I hereby declare it delicious cherry juice! Thankfully, I didn’t put a straw in the drink or it would be all gone instantly! The Ocean Blue can was sweet enough that I didn’t need to add simple syrup. The tart cherry liqueur was tart enough that it wasn’t overly sweet, with a nice highlight from the bit of lime juice. Of course the cherries barely lasted long enough to add anything to the drink, but still tasted yummy.
