Split Pea Soup

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of split green peas. soaked overnight in a big bowl of water. rinse and place in crockpot
  • 4-5 cups of stock
  • 2 tbs dry mustard
  • few splashes of worcestershire sauce
  • 1 white onion chopped small
  • 2 tbs minced garlic or use garlic powder if you have any
  • 2 cups ham chopped small
  • Salt to taste
  • LOTS of black pepper
  • 1 smoked pork hock** or ham bones with some meat on them

Instructions

  • Combine all the ingredients in a pot.
  • Simmer in a crockpot for 8 hours on low OR bring to boil in a large pot and then simmer for a few hours. You want the peas to break down into mush and the soup to be THICK THICK THICK!
  • ** Most important ingredient! Adds so much flavour.
  • If using a full smoked pork hock, when the soup is almost done, remove from the pot, cut and cube any meat, place meat and the bone back into the pot.
