I love making bbq sauce. It always seems to have so much more flavour than a store bought one. And I’m able to put ingredients into it that I like the flavour of. My latest addition is coffee. I make it with fine strong espresso, brewed with a Vietnamese coffee maker. This makes a very concentrated coffee solution and adds another flavour layer to the sauce.

BBQ Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 dark beer such as a Guinness
  • 1 c ketchup
  • 1/2 c worcesterchire sauce
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 2 tsp dry mustard
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 2 tbp paprika
  • 2 tbs smoked paprika
  • 4-6 tbs molasses
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 5 tbs balsamic vinegar
  • 1 heaping tbsp brown sugar
  • 1/2 small can of chipotle peppers in adobo sauce chopped up fine
  • 1/2 c concentrated coffee

Instructions

  • Combine all ingredients in a pot and bring to a simmer. Simmer for about 15 minutes and then place into hot and cleaned canning jar.

Notes

For the adobo peppers, I like to divvy up a can into small snack bags and throw in the freezer. I find chopping frozen peppers makes for a nicer chop than straight out of the can.
